Novita Scatliffe-George was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti but was raised in St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands. She is the proud mother of an adult daughter and son and an uncompromising loving grandmother of six precious wonderful grandchildren. She is presently retired after working for 32 years as an elementary school teacher with the Department of Education of the United States Virgin Islands (U.S.V.I.).
Novita obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education, both from the St. Thomas campus of the College of the Virgin Islands (CVI), now the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI). With these degrees she secured a teaching career in St. Thomas, U. S. V. I. and taught first grade at Thomas Jefferson Elementary at Antilles School campus, substituted fourth grade at James Madison Elementary, taught second and third grades at J. Antonio Jarvis Elementary and fourth grade at Yvonne E. Milliner-Bowsky Elementary School. Additionally, she was a Pre GED teacher for Adult and Continuing Education at the J. Antonio Jarvis Elementary School campus.
She served as secretary for her 1972 alumni class of the Charlotte Amalie High School (CAHS). In the community, her favorite organization, charity and place to offer her services was at the Salvation Army where she did many chores, but her favorite chore was greeting, serving and setting at ease the guests who came to the Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon and Christmas Luncheon.
Having had such an extensive background in education and having had firsthand experience caring for and formally and informally teaching and interacting with individuals, from birth to senior adulthood, Ms. Novita George is an asset to the Board of St. Thomas Calvary Christian Academy. Secondly, she also serves as vice president on the Board of K.I.S.H. Home, Inc. She has gone beyond her call of duty to use her wealth of experience in the organization to encourage and assist the young single female residents with one or no children.
